> Metadata Solutions: An Overview

Metadata Solutions: An Overview *This seminar is only offered on client site.
What is the best way to deal with your metadata mess? Metadata is everywhere, and it is not always in the best
shape or location. In today's environment, metadata's importance has reached frightening
levels; yet, the strategies
for creating it, maintaining its accuracy, and guaranteeing its accessibility always seem to fall short.
This seminar is geared toward providing a management overview of metadata and its associated management
solutions. Metadata is introduced and defined from perhaps the most solid IT angle
imaginable. The definition and
perceived usefulness of metadata directly impact both the type of envisioned solution as well as the scope of its
implementation.
A summarized approach to metadata requirements analysis and the resulting metamodels is presented before
solutions are addressed. Finally, various metadata situations are described, each presented with a suggested
solution strategy. Examples and strategies cover all types of metadata solution implementations including off-the-shelf
repository tools, standalone vendor metadata stores, custom-built solutions, intranet solutions, and XML-based
implementations. Where appropriate, organization and methodology-based factors are incorporated into the
discussion.
