Logical Data Modeling is a seminar geared toward
individuals who are serious about their data. Today's
corporate world of data inconsistency, inaccuracy, and poor database
design is addressed when we look at our data based upon how and why
it is used, rather than how it should be stored.
LDM has proven to be effective for students with no logical data
modeling experience, as well as those with a significant, but not
formal background (e.g., DBA’ s and developers).
Because no amount of training can substitute for doing,
trying, and learning from your experiences, this seminar represents
corporate reality. Hands-on workshops based upon presented
business requirements (sometimes incomplete!) show each student the
importance of data analysis and the impact that assumptions can make
on database design. All workshops represent actual data issues, some
targeted at specific industries, others with common corporate
impact.
This seminar stands out by presenting an ideal
balance of theory, practical advice, and hands-on experience. In
addition, the sequence of learning has been carefully thought out so
that each item of learning is simple by itself, and the foundation
for the next. The practical advice comes from the many years of
modeling experience of all instructors. All in all, this
seminar should provide you with a very enjoyable and productive
learning experience. Many modeling methodologies are covered.
The “hands-on” portion of the seminar is
implemented in two ways. First, there are many exercises.
These are done together as a class, led by the instructor.
The second and most comprehensive hands-on experience is a complete
series of workshops. Subsequent workshops build upon previous
workshops via expanded requirements, all of which require new
logical data modeling skills. Workshops cover many subjects
and topics, including the “human resources” area of a company,
video store rentals, real estate agencies, veterinary practices, and
optional "industry-specific" issues (pharmaceuticals,
finance, insurance, public services).
All exercise and workshop solutions involve the optional use
of a supplied modeling tool and are thoroughly reviewed to ensure
complete understanding of the subject matter.
