Database Design Solutions, Inc. (DBDS), a GSA-certified company, was founded in 1989 as a specialty-consulting firm focused on the revitalization of corporate data.  All organizations, large and small, struggle with data.  Whether it be locating the data, understanding the data, figuring out where it came from, or actually accessing the data, there is no organization that is not currently losing money due to the lack of data management.  Database Design Solutions began as a one-person organization and has grown to service organizations, large and small , across all industries.  Their international reputation is based upon solid and recognized achievements of key company employees.   Database Design Solutions, Inc.  has always taken the world of data from start to finish and guaranteed its client success.  DBDS is a Small Business Entity (SBE), fully woman-owned.

Specializing in the data issues that surround the Fortune 100 as well as the public sector, the firm is staffed with senior consultants who average over 20 years experience in various aspects of data and process management, specifically geared toward the large consolidation, cleansing, integration, and redesign of corporate information.  All data revitalization services are supported by a unique metadata solution backbone.

The firm has served a national and international client base and is organized by industry as a means of focusing on the data issues that are unique to each commercial and public sector.  Each industry practice is headed by an Engagement Manager with hands-on experience in various data-specific roles throughout the industry.  This experience guarantees DBDS consultants to be knowledgeable in industry-specific data issues and sources.

To ensure our vendor neutrality while maintaining our package and development tool implementation skills, Database Design Solutions, Inc. has established partnerships with many key software vendors whose products support the overall Database Design Solutions approach to data management, access, and consolidation.

Database Design Solutions, Inc. is known for its lack of tunnel vision.  Unlike many consulting service firms, we consider the requirements of the organization within every project undertaking.  Specifically, each data- focused effort begins with the identification of a practical scope.   DBDS application and database designs and implementations have been recognized as preventing continued post-implementation data conflict.  All projects begin with an initial assessment of the current environment as a means of scoping the effort and developing a customized, detailed project plan.  This plan then serves as the detailed agreement between the client and DBDS in that it itemizes all project tasks, assigned resources and timeframes, and resulting deliverables.

Because metadata, or meta data,  (those characteristics and values that allow us to locate, understand, access, and trace our information) is already everywhere, it is essential that all data revitalization efforts also include a revitalization of the associated metadata.  Database Design Solutions believes that revitalized data is useless if its potential beneficiaries have no easy way of identifying, deciphering, locating, or accessing it.  Metadata is ideally located, validated, and organized or created at the beginning of each project. Redundancy is often in existence for a reason, and DBDS focuses on the cause as opposed to just another resulting metadata store.  Our projects all result in a set of accessible metadata that reflects the interests and needs of all application and data beneficiaries.  The resulting metadata solution is designed to practically guarantee the consistency and active nature of all appropriate metadata.

In order to ensure this result, Database Design Solutions has developed a trademarked 5-Question™ Methodology, focused within the defined scope of each consulting effort providing answers to the following questions:

  1. What data do we have?
2. What does it mean?
3. Where is it?
4. How did it get there?
5. How do I get it (Go get it for me!)?

Database Design Solutions, Inc. is a big believer in knowledge transfer and requires the presence of at least one client resource on all projects.
